A NEW YEAR AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN A NEW SKILL... LEARN THE SKILL OF DRAWING IN JUST FIVE DAYS“Doing the course with you has enabled me to really start to draw. Thank you so much! It was hard to believe what I had previously read about the benefits achievable from following the methods taught in the drawing exercises, but it really is working for me. I feel hugely encouraged” RS Contact me to book your place now Drawing boosts memory...Have you noticed that if you draw something and then come back after some time has passed and look at the drawing you will remember so much more about the experience than if you just took a photograph. This is one of the greatest pleasures that we can get from drawing. Drawing while on holiday for example, will strengthen your memories much more than if you just took a photograph of a landscape. One of the reasons for this is that in order to draw we have to pay attention - and when we are in that 'R-Mode zone' we are fully present. This helps 'bank' the experience in our long term memory whereas usually a pleasant experience slips away from us as there is no survival benefit or need to remember it - unlike something that is a potential threat.A recent Canadian study that was shared with me by a past student (thanks Joan!) showed that the brain remembers more easily with drawing than written notes - and this is particularly true for older people. The researchers say "rendering images on paper incorporates multiple ways of representing the information — with visual, spatial, verbal, semantic and motor skills."
